Question About Alliances
Does anyone have information about how Alliances are going to work? I understand the concept with regards to Kurzick vs Luxons and allying yourself (through your guild) with one or the other side. What I'm not sure about is this: Are we going to be able to ally our guild with another guild? It seems like it, but I'm just not sure.
If that is the case, beyond fighting together in battles, what would the benefits to this be? Could we access each others Guild Halls and such?
Any info appreciated. Thanks!

From GW.com:
What are alliances and how do they work in Guild Wars Factions?
Guilds can join together to form guild alliances. Allied guilds share Alliance chat and can visit each other’s guild halls. Alliances can also gain control of towns and outposts in Cantha by participating in Alliance Battles, which give them the ability to trigger events and gain access to exclusive areas.
Alliances belong to one of two warring factions, the Kurzick or the Luxon, and being a member of an alliance allows participation in alliance battles. Victory in an alliance battle earns faction points, and members can spend their points individually or they can add them to the alliance bank, which will enable the alliance to acquire control of towns and outposts...
...With that control, guild members acquire access to elite cooperative content.

So does this mean everyone in one alliance has to be Luxon or Kurzick only? Can they not be different Faction?

That is something I would like to know for sure, as well. ( http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s....php?t=3008778 )
I am inferring that an individual can earn and spend both Luxon and Kurzick faction on their own, but would love to see something official on it.

same here, I think an 'individual' can spend his KurLux faction points for a certain character, but whatever the alliance has chosen (not exactly the guild), that's the only faction/side where you can spend your faction points to turn into 'alliance standing' rank.
All you can do with your enemy faction (so to speak) is to activate the quest "10,000 faction points" and finish it.

I'm just confused about how alliances will work between Prophecies and Factions... does only the leader have to have Factions to be able to join an alliance? Also, I wonder how the alliance chat will work, like if it will be a new tab or what; I suppose for that they would have to update both the Prophecies and Factions interfaces and just black out the tab if you aren't in an alliance, same as if you aren't in a guild.

When I aligned my guild to the Luxons, I lost all my Kurzick faction, but I'm not sure of any of my guildies had the same thing. It takes 5,000 Alliance Faction to gain 10 points of Alliance Standing for either side. Faction can also be traded in individually for things like Jade and Amber. I can still gain Kurzick faction, and I didn't have a chance to test to see if I could interact with Kurzick NPC's because I had too much Luxon faction which would interfere regardless of your guild's alliance.
I'd like to know exactly how many guilds can be in a single alliance, and if 2 guilds within an alliance can fight each other.

I can answer some of the question, but I have some myself as well...
First I read somewhere that an alliance consist of max 10 guilds so maximum of 1000 players.
When the guildleader bought factions: it can ally, I doubt the guild leaders that doesnt have faction can do that. They certainly CANNOT pick a side: luxon/kurzick
When your guild has some standing with one of the factions: Luxon/kurzick the members can pay 5000 faction of THE STANDING FACTION and gain +10 on their standing lvl. Players that want to pay 5000 faction to the other faction will notice its impossible. (We tried this... you can even turn in the faction now in your guildhall)
Questions I have:
I just read in the Q/A follow-up of the FPE that when your alliance gain control of an outpost only your alliance can use the resurrection shrine (unless you bribe/kill the guards)
What shrine is meant with this? The one just outside the outpost? do you need to bribe/kill the guards before you need ressing or after? Are they always considered hostile (assuming opposing faction)?
Second question:
I noticed our faction standing is slowly decreasing. Whats the mechanism behind that? does it drop when players do opposite faction quests? does it simply drop in time?

Your first question, I think it was meant for accounts that are still neutral or is a member of the opposite faction.
Im not sure but maybe it was misexplained.
The only difference between a controlling alliance and non is you get to unlock special quests and areas.
Someone also said that if an alliance can buy all towns at a given time, a special quest and map will be unlocked as well - but will require all the members of the alliance to join and help as it is said to be very very hard.
Nope, you can do the opposite quests, use those factions to buy stuff and still won't affect the decreasing of your alliance's faction standing.
It is decreasing every 24 hours by some computation. I can't remember exactly, didn't care to jot down the decrements. It goes down a lot of points and/or faster if you have a lot of alliance's faction standing than those with lesser one's (theory), the only way to give other alliance's a chance.
But of course can be easily defeated with the alliance have 1000 members constantly donating

Does this mean that you dont have to be in one of the top alliances to get access to these elite areas- you just have to be in one that wins lots of battles?

If there is a counter-balance built-in then maybe yes, you don't need to be in one.
The counter-balance that I can think of is that top alliances' "alliance faction points/rank/standing" decrements faster or a lot than those with lesser collections. They have to buy towns or they'll only waste their points.
This way alliances with lower collections/rank/standing will have a chance.
But we haven't heard Gaile or any of the GW CMs spoke of that, instead they always say that top alliances will always be at the top, or interchange with other top alliances.
With a counter-balance I explained, if all those top alliances have 1000 members actively contributing to the pool (alliance rank/faction), then they will still be at the top and be able to buy towns for as long as they want.

Yep, it's possible. They can even fight on the side of the Alliance's enemy.
so say:
Alliance Allegiance is Kurzick
members fight for the Luxons
THe reason, there is no restriction from doing so.
Maybe come final, it will be restricted. Since during FPE, they want to 'show' what factions is all about, so they might have removed restrictions temporarily.
